Our Story
We are a group of educators who have worked in Hong Kong's education sector for over 30 years. Over the years, we've witnessed countless students grow — and seen a deep problem in the system: we systematically measure academic performance, yet never systematically cultivate or record character.
Every year when DSE results come out, the spotlight falls on top scorers. But what we see in classrooms is a different picture: students who feel worthless because they didn't get ideal grades, high-scorers mocking those with lower results, and students with average grades but outstanding character whose strengths are never valued by university admissions.
What worries us more is the recent string of professionals failing in character — trainee doctors misusing accounts to steal patient data, doctors leaking patient privacy. These people passed all public exams and entered the top institutions, yet failed on the most basic strengths: honesty and prudence. This proves one thing: qualifications can be certified, but character doesn't automatically come with a diploma.
We began asking: if we could systematically observe, record, and certify students' character strengths the way we record grades, would society rediscover the value of character? Would students with excellent character but average grades finally have a "report card" of their own?
CharactCred is the answer to that question. Built on the VIA Character Strengths framework, combining behavioral evidence collection, institutional certification, and expert audit, we make character — for the first time — an asset that can be objectively recorded, certified, and verified.
